This is an acrylic on canvas of cm. 70x50 by Antonello Arena, from the series "Sexy stars", dedicated by the master to the most fascinating characters of the show.
A theme dear to Arena, since the time of the erotic realism period, which the artist developed in the last years of the twentieth century. At the time, Arena was often called as a consultant for films of the Italian sexy genre. In those years he became, in particular, a friend of Maria Grazie Cucinotta, who was the patroness of several of his exhibitions.
Arena is one of the major contemporary Italian artists, protagonist of the Venice Biennale of 1988. As a young man he participated with Mimmo Rotella, Christo, Arman and other authors who became very famous, in the Nouveau réalisme, the movement based in Nice, theorized by Pierre Restany, one of the major European art critics of the twentieth century. And Restany himself defined Arena as "the most innovative Italian artist of the middle generation".
Arena is also one of the Star System's favorite artists. He was recently commissioned to create a sculpture on the Lungomare di Salina dedicated to the memory of the unforgettable actor Massimo Troisi.
