Description

Milan match shirt issued / worn by Maldini in the Club Mundialito match against Porto played on 21/06/1987.

Milan won the match 2-0.

This is the first trophy won by Berlusconi with Milan.

In this match only, Maldini took the field wearing a jersey with the following unique features:

  • Number 6, which was normally worn by Baresi;
  • Number 6 in flock material, different from the type of numbers used in other matches, and also smaller in size (see photogallery);
  • Kappa logo and the star woven into the fabric, rather than stitched.

But what is the Club Mundialito?

The Super Clubs Cup, also known as the Super World Club Cup—and more commonly referred to as the Mundialito—was an invitational football tournament organized by Canale 5 and first held in 1981.

It took place over four editions until 1987 and was won once each by Inter, Juventus, and AC Milan, as well as by Uruguayan side Peñarol.

The 1987 Club Mundialito (the third edition of the tournament) was held from June 21 to June 29 in Milan, at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in San Siro, and was won by AC Milan. The original regulation from the first edition in 1981—which stipulated that only clubs that had won at least one Intercontinental Cup could participate—had effectively lapsed by the second edition in 1983, when Juventus was invited despite never having won the trophy up to that point.

This memorabilia is part of the match supply made available to players during official competitions and is different in its features in relation to the ones sold in fanshops, it could have been worn during the match and washed after the end of the match or prepared for the match but then not used.
