IWC Pilot's Automatic Edition watch.
This timepiece is the 15th special edition that the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer has created to support the work of Laureus Sport for Good. For the first time, a hard, scratch-resistant blue ceramic case complements the dial in the distinctive Laureus blue. The case back is engraved with the winning entry from the drawing competition that IWC organizes annually as part of all Laureus Sport for Good programs worldwide.
The ceramic's dark blue hue is the result of a complex manufacturing process. Powdered zirconium oxide is mixed with other metal oxides, shaped, and then sintered in a furnace. Colored ceramic places extremely high demands on the quality and purity of the raw materials. The blue dial, designed to mimic a cockpit instrument, displays the time at a glance. Thanks to the luminescent coating, this is possible even at night. The IWC-manufactured caliber 32111 movement ensures precise timing.
Thanks to an improved barrel construction, the mainspring can hold an impressive five-day power reserve. A soft-iron inner cage effectively protects the movement from the effects of magnetic fields. Limited to 750 pieces, this sporty pilot's watch is fitted with a blue rubber strap with a textile insert.
In keeping with Laureus special edition tradition, a special element is engraved on the case back: the titanium case back features the winning design from the annual drawing competition IWC organizes as part of all the programs supported by Laureus Sport for Good. The design was created by 12-year-old Colombian Melissa Mejía Castilla and is titled "Vivir en Armonía" (Living in Peace). Melissa participates in activities organized by the Fundación Colombianitos, an organization that promotes gender equality through sport.
