The final of the 46th edition of the UEFA Champions League was played on May 23, 2001, at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, between Bayern Munich and Valencia, in front of about 79,000 spectators. Officiated by Dutch referee Dick Jol, the match ended 1-1 after regular time and extra time, with Bayern Munich claiming the trophy by winning 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
