HAR brooch
Charity initiative supporting Soleterre FoundationDescription
This Buddha-shaped brooch, made in the United States in 1959 by HAR, is one of the brand's most captivating and recognizable pieces.
The vermeil (gold-plated silver) piece depicts a seated Buddha, embellished with green and white rhinestones that illuminate the figure with delicate color contrasts. The combination of emerald and crystal hues, along with the warm luster of the gold plating, gives the brooch an exotic and refined elegance.
Measuring approximately 6.3 x 3.8 cm, the composition perfectly balances the strength of the symbolic subject with the grace of the design. HAR successfully combined elements inspired by Oriental art with a distinctly modern taste, creating jewelry with a unique and unmistakable aesthetic.
This design is published in Angie Gordon's volume Costume Jewelry (p. 185), a testament to its historical significance and collectible value.
