Foodmetti for Alessi. A unique vase decorated by Massimo Giacon - A tribute to the Robert F. Kennedy centenary
Charity initiative supporting Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights ItaliaDescription
Unique vase decorated by Massimo Giacon
Artwork created live on October 31, 2025, at Palazzo Guinigi in Lucca, during the Foodmetti event in collaboration with Alessi.
The vase, made of white ceramic, belongs to the historic collection designed by Alessandro Mendini for Alessi and was decorated with ceramic markers by Massimo Giacon — a multifaceted artist whose work spans comics, design, music, and visual arts.
A leading figure in the renewal of Italian comics since the early 1980s, Giacon made his mark in magazines such as Frigidaire, Alter, Dolce Vita, Cyborg, and Nova Express. In 1985, he began a key collaboration with Ettore Sottsass, followed by work with Matteo Thun, Studio Mendini, Sieger Design, and numerous projects for companies including Olivetti, Memphis, Artemide, Alessi, Swatch, Philips, Ritzenhoff, and Telecom.
Alongside his work in comics — for publications such as Linus — and a long career in design, Giacon has also pursued an intense musical path: after his experiences with Spirocheta Pergoli and I Nipoti del Faraone, he released the albums Horror Vacui (1996) and La Città Ideale (2003).
He has designed tapestries, carpets, ceramics, homeware, editorial and advertising illustrations, and has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Asia. He has also created graphic novels and publications with Feltrinelli, including Amami and Il mondo così com’è, written by Tiziano Scarpa.
For over 25 years, he has taught Comic Language at IED Milan.
With this unique work, Giacon brings his pop, ironic, and surreal aesthetic to the Alessi vase, transforming it into an object that merges functionality and visual storytelling — a reflection of his distinctive, multidisciplinary creativity.
