Description

Gerry Rafferty - “City to City” (1978) - Italian Edition, United Artists Records

“City to City” is the second solo album by Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty, released in 1978 on United Artists Records and distributed in Italy by Dischi Ricordi S.p.A.. The record established Rafferty as a refined and introspective songwriter, blending melodic sophistication with a distinctly British pop-rock sensibility.

The album features the timeless classic “Baker Street”, with its iconic saxophone solo performed by Raphael Ravenscroft, as well as other standout tracks such as “Right Down the Line”, “Stealin’ Time”, and “Whatever’s Written in Your Heart”. The sound ranges from folk-rock to soft rock, with rich arrangements and meticulous production by Rafferty and Hugh Murphy.

The cover art, illustrated by John Patrick Byrne, portrays Rafferty with an electric guitar in a surreal, dreamlike cityscape - a distinctive 1970s artistic style.

The back cover continues the artwork, listing track details and production credits.

The label is the yellow United Artists Records design with black print, typical of Italian pressings from the period.

A landmark album for collectors and admirers of thoughtful, melodic songwriting, “City to City” stands as one of the defining works of 1970s pop-rock.
