River Plate match shirt issued / worn by number 10 in an official match, 1972 season.
The team finished the Primera División in third place in the Torneo Metropolitano and second in the Torneo Nacional, reaching the final.
Led by Juan Eulogio Urriolabeitía (president Julián Kent), River displayed solid performances and an offensive unit spearheaded by the great Oscar "Pinino" Más, the season's top scorer in the league with 29 goals (14 in the Metropolitano + 15 in the Nacional).
In the 1972 Nacional, River finished their group behind San Lorenzo, then defeated Boca Juniors in the semifinals and faced San Lorenzo again in the final. The final was a close one: after San Lorenzo missed a penalty in the dying seconds of regulation time, the game went to extra time, where the decisive goal came that clinched the title.
