The match, played between Juventus, winners of the UEFA Champions League, and River Plate, winners of the Copa Libertadores, ended in a 1–0 victory for Juventus.

The shirt features the inscription “European / South American Cup 1996” on the left sleeve. The lettering is woven into the fabric and is perfectly centered on the sleeve, leaving equal space between the shoulder and the cuff.
