Roberto Donadoni was one of the pillars of AC Milan under Arrigo Sacchi and later Fabio Capello. In the 1991–92 season he was a regular starter in the Milan side that won the Serie A title without losing a single match, launching the cycle of the “Invincibles.” Capello mainly asked him to perform tactical work: defensive cover, pressing, and build-up play on the flanks rather than scoring goals. In fact, he finished the season with 30 appearances and just 1 goal.

The Milan fans have always appreciated him for his elegant style, consistency, and great tactical sacrifice: he was not a spectacular player like Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, or Frank Rijkaard, but he was fundamental to the team’s balance. It was at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (S. Siro) that he experienced some of the best seasons of Milan in the late 1980s and early 1990s, becoming one of the symbols of the cycle that began with Sacchi and continued under Capello. His reliability and long service to the club made him one of the players most respected by the Rossoneri supporters.
