Description

Milan match shirt issued for Desailly  for the game played against Paris Saint-Germain on 28/07/1997, corresponding to the first match of the knockout stage of the Opel Master Cup, 1997/98 season.

The match against Paris Saint-Germain marked Fabio Capello’s first game back in charge of AC Milan, following his return after managing Real Madrid in the previous season.

This shirt can be attributed exclusively to that match, as it was used by the Rossoneri only on that occasion; in the Opel Master Cup final, in fact, the team took the field wearing their traditional home kit.

It is also a match-issued shirt, as Desailly did not take part in the game.

The Opel Master Cup was a football tournament primarily involving teams sponsored by the automobile manufacturer Opel. The competition was held a total of five times, with varying formats; the first edition took place in 1996. Notably, the 1997 edition featured a four-team knockout format. After defeating Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the opening match, AC Milan also overcame Bayern Munich on penalties.

As for match duration, the first four editions, including that of 1997, consisted of 45-minute games, while only in the final edition in 2000 were standard 90-minute matches introduced.

This memorabilia is part of the match supply made available to players during official competitions and is different in its features in relation to the ones sold in fanshops.
