Ramón Díaz is a former Argentine footballer and coach, born on August 29, 1959, in La Rioja. A technically gifted and elegant forward, he made his mark at a young age with River Plate before moving to Europe, where he played for clubs such as Napoli, Avellino, Fiorentina, and Inter.

With the Argentine national team, he was a key figure in the early 1980s and was part of the squad that competed in the 1982 World Cup in Spain. Argentina entered the tournament as the defending champions after their 1978 triumph, but the campaign proved disappointing: the team advanced from the first group stage but was eliminated in the second round, placed in a tough group with Italy and Brazil.

Despite the early exit, Díaz contributed to the team’s journey, although the 1982 World Cup marked the end of a cycle for Argentina, which would soon rebuild and return to success in 1986.
