Inter’s 1996/97 season was marked by ups and downs, ending with a third-place finish in Serie A and qualification for the UEFA Cup. The team, coached by Roy Hodgson for most of the campaign, featured talented players such as Youri Djorkaeff, Javier Zanetti, and Ivan Zamorano. Djorkaeff scored one of the most iconic goals in Inter history that season with his famous bicycle kick against Roma. Despite some difficulties, the club laid the foundations for the arrival of Ronaldo in the following year.
