Description

Sevilla match shirt issued for / worn by Diego Armando Maradona in a LaLiga match, 1992/93 season.

The Sevilla FC away shirt from the 1992/93 season is one of the most iconic pieces of 1990s European football memorabilia, inextricably linked to Diego Armando Maradona’s return to competitive football after the lengthy suspension that brought his celebrated spell at Napoli to an abrupt end.

Manufactured by technical sponsor Bukta, this 100% polyester shirt embodies the distinctive aesthetic of early 1990s football apparel. It features an elegant tone-on-tone jacquard pattern incorporating the Sevilla FC crest repeatedly across the entire fabric, a unique detail that enhances both its visual appeal and recognizability. The contrast-trimmed collar reflects the classic design language of the era, while the famous flock velvet number 10 on the back pays tribute to the Argentine legend who wore it during his sole season in Andalusia.

Diego Armando Maradona's Career:

The 1992/93 season marked Diego Armando Maradona’s return to professional football after approximately eighteen months away from the game due to a doping suspension. His move to Sevilla was one of the most significant transfers in international football at the time.

A key figure behind the transfer was Carlos Bilardo, Sevilla’s head coach and the manager who had guided Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986. Bilardo strongly believed he could revive Maradona’s career in a highly competitive environment. Maradona made his first appearance for Sevilla on 28 September 1992 in a friendly match against Bayern Munich, before making his official La Liga debut on 4 October in a 2–1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao.

Throughout the season, Maradona continued to display flashes of his extraordinary technical ability and vision, contributing 5 goals and 12 assists in 25 appearances. Despite encouraging individual performances, Sevilla fell short of its objectives and failed to secure qualification for European competition at the end of the campaign.

This memorabilia is part of the match supply made available to players during official competitions and is different in its features in relation to the ones sold in fanshops, it could have been worn during the match and washed after the end of the match or prepared for the match but then not used.
