Napoli match shirt issued/worn by Maradona in the match against Cesena played on 16/10/1988, valid for the 4th match of Serie A, 1988/89 season.

This shirt can be attributed exclusively to the match against Cesena, as it was the only occasion on which Napoli used a satin-finish shirt with a light inner fleece lining.

The only other documented match in which Napoli wore a shirt of this type was the UEFA Cup fixture against RB Leipzig. However, in that case the inner fleece lining was noticeably thicker and heavier, giving the fabric a distinctly different appearance, characterized by more pronounced folds and creases. The shirt used against Cesena features a thinner lining, details that can be clearly observed in the gallery photographs.

The shirt displays the stitched Napoli crest, the paint-applied Mars sponsor, and the felt number on the reverse with original NR stitching, all consistent with period manufacturing specifications.

The shirt also shows slight marks beneath the zero of the number 10, compatible with a possible modification or renumbering carried out during the preparation process. At the time, last-minute adjustments to shirt numbering were not uncommon, particularly due to the limited availability of match shirts and the scarcity of special variants such as this one.

A close-up photograph of Diego Maradona, visible in the gallery, shows him wearing the number 10 shirt with traces of a previous numbering visible above the zero. These marks may indicate that the shirt was originally intended for another player, possibly a number 19, before being adapted for use by Maradona.

This particular shirt model was never made available through retail stores and was produced exclusively for team use.
