Federico Magallanes is a former Uruguayan footballer who played as a forward or attacking midfielder. During his career, he represented several clubs, including Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid Castilla, Racing Santander, Venezia, Torino, and Defensor Sporting. At international level, he earned numerous caps for the Uruguay national team between 1994 and 2001, and was part of the squad that competed in the 1999 Copa América.

The 1999 Copa América was held in Paraguay from 29 June to 18 July. Managed by Víctor Púa, Uruguay progressed through the group stage before defeating Paraguay and Chile in the knockout rounds to reach the final. In the tournament's decisive match, La Celeste was defeated 3–0 by Brazil, with Rivaldo scoring twice and Ronaldo adding the third goal.
