“SenzaGiro” x Santini cycling jersey.
Santini pink jersey created for the “SenzaGiro” project, an initiative launched in 2020 following the postponement of the Giro d’Italia due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The project symbolically recreated the Giro that could not take place on its originally scheduled dates, keeping the spirit of the iconic Italian race alive during an unprecedented period. From 9 to 31 May, 21 journalists, writers, former cyclists and cycling enthusiasts virtually “rode” the 21 scheduled stages, creating fictional race reports, stage winners and classifications each day, accompanied by illustrations from various artists.
SenzaGiro thus became an imaginary Giro d’Italia, narrated as though the race were actually taking place, while also supporting a charitable fundraising campaign for the Namasté cooperative in Bergamo.
The jersey has been signed on the front by Vincenzo Nibali, one of the greatest Italian cyclists of all time and one of the few riders to have won all three Grand Tours: the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España. Nicknamed “The Shark of the Strait”, Nibali won the Giro d’Italia in 2013 and 2016.
The jersey is accompanied by one of the artistic posters created for the SenzaGiro project.
The poster depicts the 7th stage of the 2020 Giro d’Italia, originally scheduled for 15 May, from Mileto to Camigliatello Silano, reimagined through an original illustration created as part of the SenzaGiro project.
