The 2021 Italian Super Cup final was played on 12/01/2022 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan between Inter and Juventus.
Inter entered the competition as the reigning Serie A champions, while Juventus had qualified by winning the Coppa Italia the previous season.
The match was won by Inter 2-1 after extra time. Juventus took the lead through Weston McKennie, before Lautaro Martínez equalised for the Nerazzurri from the penalty spot. With the match seemingly heading towards a penalty shootout, Alexis Sánchez scored the decisive goal in the 120th minute, securing the trophy for Inter.
With this victory, Inter claimed their sixth Supercoppa Italiana title, winning the trophy for the first time in more than eleven years.
The medal is rectangular in shape, featuring a silver-coloured finish and a modern, minimalist design. The front displays the Supercoppa Italiana logo in relief, accompanied by the inscription “SUPERCOPPA” at the bottom and “2021 / 2022” at the top.
The reverse of the medal is engraved with the inscription “INTER - JUVENTUS”, together with the wording “Milano, 12 gennaio 2022”.
The blue ribbon repeatedly features the inscription “SUPERCOPPA”, the competition logo and the “FRECCIAROSSA” branding, the title sponsor of that edition.
The 2021/22 season was particularly successful for Inter in domestic cup competitions. Under the management of Simone Inzaghi, the Nerazzurri won both the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia, defeating Juventus in the final on both occasions.
