Description

Dalmatax is a sculptural sofa designed by Parasite 2.0 as part of The Pet Collection by Elanco, a collection that reinterprets the relationship between design, domestic space and the animal world.

The design draws inspiration from the unmistakable appearance of the Dalmatian, transforming its distinctive features into functional and decorative elements of the sofa. The generously upholstered seat evokes the animal’s body through its characteristic white coat with black spots, while the ends of the backrest extend outwards to form two large black ears, which also serve as armrests. At the base, two small upholstered paws emerge from the structure, further reinforcing the reference to the dog. A bone-shaped metal tag is also positioned at the centre of the base.

The seat and central section of the backrest are upholstered in a soft black-and-white fabric, featuring an irregular pattern of spots and paw prints that immediately recalls the Dalmatian’s distinctive coat.

The entirely black ends of the backrest create a striking chromatic contrast and further emphasise the playful, figurative character of the work.

The upholstered component is supported by a metal structure with rounded forms, left exposed along the entire lower perimeter. The metallic finish of the base creates a striking contrast with the softness and deliberately ironic character of the upholstery, giving the piece an identity that lies somewhere between furniture, sculpture, and conceptual design.

The structure is made of metal, wood and upholstered materials and measures 80 × 250 × 110 cm.

Dalmatax is part of The Pet Collection by Elanco and was designed by Parasite 2.0, an architecture and design studio whose practice spans architecture, design and scenography, and which has collaborated with institutions and brands including the Venice Architecture Biennale, Fondazione Prada, Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, IKEA, Missoni and SUNNEI.

Halfway between art and design, the piece is conceived as a true collector’s item, primarily intended for display and capable of adding character and personality to any space. It can also be used, provided it is handled with the care and caution appropriate for a collectible design piece.

The work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by a co-author and representative of Parasite 2.0. The certificate will be shown and provided to the successful bidder.
