The image forms part of a Bhutan philatelic souvenir sheet dedicated to the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.

Jairzinho was one of the greatest players in the history of the Brazilian National Team. Nicknamed “Furacão” (“The Hurricane”), he reached the pinnacle of his career at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where he helped Brazil claim the title by scoring in every match played by the Seleção, including the 4–1 victory over Italy in the final.

At the 1982 World Cup in Spain, Brazil fielded a legendary team featuring stars such as Zico, Sócrates, Falcão and Cerezo. After winning their first four matches of the tournament, the Seleção were eliminated in the second round by Italy, 3–2, in the famous match decided by Paolo Rossi’s hat-trick. Despite their elimination, the 1982 Brazilian team is still remembered as one of the most talented and entertaining sides in World Cup history.
