Schillaci Italy National team match shirt vs Netehrland
Description
Italy match shirt prepared / worn by Schillaci for the friendly match played against the Netherlands on 26/09/1990, during the 1990 season.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of Italy.
The shirt can be attributed to Italy vs Netherlands, the first match played by the Italian national team after the 1990 World Cup. On that occasion, Italy took the field wearing different shirt variants at the same time, particularly with regard to the collar.
As visible in the gallery images, Baggio wore the version featuring the same collar colour arrangement used during Italia ’90, while Schillaci wore a variant with the collar colours reversed, a feature already seen on pre-World Cup models.
The shirt can be specifically attributed to the variant worn by Schillaci, also due to the presence of a different internal label compared with earlier models. This specific combination of collar and label appears to have been used after the World Cup only for this match, as a different shirt model was already adopted for the following game in Hungary.
Another important identifying element is the number 9: during Italia ’90 and in the period before the World Cup, it was worn by De Napoli, while Schillaci predominantly wore number 19. Against the Netherlands, however, Schillaci took the field wearing number 9.
The combination of these details therefore makes it possible to attribute this shirt model to this specific match against the Netherlands.
This memorabilia is part of the match supply made available to players during official competitions and is different in its features in relation to the ones sold in fanshops, it could have been worn during the match and washed after the end of the match or prepared for the match but then not used.
