Description

Brazil match worn / issued shirt by Dunga in an official match, 1995/96 season.

Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri — known to all simply as Dunga — was not the kind of captain people expected from Brazil. He didn’t have the flair of a number 10 or the flamboyance of a goalscorer. Yet in 1994, it was Dunga who climbed the steps of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena first. And it was he who lifted the World Cup, bringing Brazil back to the top of world football after 24 years. A serious expression, the captain’s armband, the iconic yellow shirt, and that fourth star — stitched in spirit onto the chest of an entire nation.

From that day forward, every Brazil shirt would carry four stars above the crest, the visible reminder of that triumph. A shirt that became the symbol of a different kind of Brazil: stronger, more compact, with Dunga’s presence at its core.

But the story of that shirt didn’t end under the golden lights of Pasadena. The following year, in 1995, Dunga took an unexpected path — he moved to Japan and signed with Júbilo Iwata, joining a J-League still in its early years. There, he crossed paths with another football icon: Salvatore “Totò” Schillaci, top scorer of the 1990 World Cup. Two men, two different worlds, brought together in a shared journey far from home.

Even in Japan, Dunga remained true to himself, a quiet leader, a team player. In 1997, he led Júbilo Iwata to the league title and was named J-League MVP. That chapter in the East became a mix of memories and friendships. In a gesture of genuine appreciation, Dunga gave Schillaci this Brazil shirt with four stars, a rare and symbolic keepsake that spoke of glory, but also of mutual respect between two men who had lived very different football lives.

This memorabilia is part of the match supply made available to players during official competitions and is different in its features in relation to the ones sold in fanshops, it could have been worn during the match and washed after the end of the match or prepared for the match but then not used.
