Napoli match shirt issued/worn by Maradona in an official match 1988/1989 season.
This shirt model was used exclusively on two occasions during the season:
- Napoli vs Lecce, played on February 26th, 1989, which ended 4-0 in favor of Napoli.
- Napoli vs Leipzig, played on October 26th, 1988, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
In 1989, Napoli came close to a historic treble. They finished second in the league behind Inter’s record-breaking side, reached the Coppa Italia final, and won the UEFA Cup — their first official European trophy — by defeating Stuttgart over two legs (2–1 in the first leg, 3–3 in the return).
