Description

Milan match issued / worn shirt by Boban in occasion of a Serie A match, 1999/2000 season.

In the summer of 1999, San Siro became the stage for an emotional event: the opening night of AC Milan’s Centenary, strongly desired by president Silvio Berlusconi. The stadium was open to the public for free, the atmosphere was electric. Former legends walked across the pitch, and a new anthem: “Milan Milan, solo con te…”, echoed for the first time. One unique curiosity of the evening was the presence of astronaut Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk on the Moon, who joined Alberto Zaccheroni for a symbolic lap of honor. That moment was meant to reflect what Zaccheroni was expected to achieve: taking Milan to the top of Europe and the world.

Among the stars of the present, Andriy Shevchenko was introduced to a roaring crowd, wearing the Scudetto on his chest. But shining brightest that night was Zvonimir Boban, the "Professor", wearing the number 10 shirt.

The 1999/2000 Centenary match shirt was a refined tribute to the club’s history: thin red-and-black stripes like in 1899, gold accents, and the cross of Saint George replacing the traditional crest, all evoking Milanese identity. On the sleeve, the Scudetto stood out, a symbol of the hard-fought league title won just months earlier. Boban was the brain of that team: an elegant and intelligent playmaker, the perfect bridge between midfield and attack, able to light up the game with a glance or a flash of inspiration.

In a squad filled with champions, like Maldini, Albertini, Weah, Sheva, he was the one who wore the number 10, with natural poise and full responsibility. Over nine seasons with the Rossoneri, Boban left a lasting mark: 251 appearances, 30 goals, and a cabinet full of trophies (four Serie A titles, one Champions League, three Italian Super Cups, and one UEFA Super Cup).

But numbers alone don’t tell his story. His football was art, intelligence, and vision. And during that Centenary year, his shirt became more than a shirt: it was the red thread connecting Rivera to Rui Costa, the symbol of a glorious Milan stepping into a new millennium with the eternal class of Zvonimir Boban.

This memorabilia is part of the match supply made available to players during official competitions and is different in its features in relation to the ones sold in fanshop, it could have been worn during the match and washed after the end of the match or prepared for the match but then not used.
