Duality - Artwork by Simone Barlaam
Charity initiative supporting Fondazione Laureus Sport for Good ETS Description
Created by athlete and artist Simone Barlaam, the work "Duality" explores a central theme in sport that is often overlooked when discussing fair play: competitive spirit.
Through this composition, the artist intends to capture the tension and allure of competitive confrontation, where respect for one's opponent also stems from a commitment to show one's best. The panel depicts different disciplines, creating a web of images and gestures that underscore how competition, though expressed in different forms, generates emotions common to all athletes.
Barlaam thus invites us to reflect on how friendship and the relationship between athletes can transform in the face of competition, highlighting the duality between collaboration and rivalry, respect and competitive spirit, unity and opposition.
This work aims to be a universal representation of the sporting experience, in which passion, commitment, and loyalty coexist in dynamic balance.
"In this illustration, I tried to represent a feeling that (when discussing fair play) is often overlooked: competitive spirit. I believe that by respecting one's opponent, an athlete also has the "obligation" to show them the best of themselves.
I find it fascinating how the relationship between two friends can change when they compete against each other. In my illustration, you can see many different sports. This shows that certain feelings are common to all sports and all athletes."
