During the 2009/10 season, Beckham, on loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy, made 11 Serie A appearances for Milan and a few minutes in the Champions League before an Achilles tendon injury prematurely ended his Italian career. The reunion with Manchester United was charged with symbolism: he had already played in England, and that match represented a crossroads between past and present in his European experience.

The shirt is a match-worn one, as AC Milan has never used it in the Champions League. The only exception was the return match against Manchester United, which was played without the inscription "The most successful club in the world," which is why this cannot be considered a match-worn shirt.
