Description

Title of the work:

A model in front of the ceramic composition by Ettore Sottsass Jr.

Architect Ettore Sottsass redesigned the entrance hall of the Palazzo dell'Arte with themes and motifs appropriate for a waiting and living area.

He resized the entire space and modified the original openings with a composition of wooden panels (obece). He fragmented the space without disrupting continuity, covering the pillars to the point of masking their structural function, creating walls and partitions into which panels and artworks were inserted. This created welcoming areas for sitting, conversation, and relaxation, with numerous sofas arranged around them.

The floor is made of glass, and geometric patterns were created on it to create indications and invitations regarding the direction of the route, the location of the artworks, etc.

The ceramic panel in the photograph is by Ettore Sottsass himself.

Technical specifications:

  • 12th Milan Triennale 1960
  • 18 x 24 cm
  • Silver bromide gelatin/paper
  • Courtesy of the Milan Triennale

This work was donated by the Milan Triennale.

Pre-auction winners will receive an email inviting them to raise a maximum bid, which will be carried forward to the auction on November 3rd to protect the interests of the online pre-auction participant.

Winners of the online pre-auction will also be offered the opportunity to defend their bid by participating remotely at the November 3rd event, via the telephone auction mechanism directly through the CAF Association.
