The Fiamme Oro, the State Police Sports Group, was founded in 1954 with an agreement between the Ministry of the Interior and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). The Group's institutional purpose is to maintain and promote competitive sports, including among young people (youth centers), to enhance the national sporting heritage. With this in mind, the Fiamme Oro trains high-profile athletes in 43 sports, which are practiced at nine national centers and 37 youth centers. Among the numerous prestigious achievements of its athletes, 146 Olympic medals stand out.
