The Gem Palace
For nine generations, The Gem Palace has stood at the heart of Jaipur’s extraordinary jewellery tradition, carrying forward a family story shaped by artistry, imagination and an instinctive understanding of precious stones.
The history of the Kasliwal family is closely intertwined with that of Jaipur itself. Invited to the newly founded city in the early eighteenth century, the family was appointed court jewellers to Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, creating exceptional jewels for the Maharajas and their courts.
Over the centuries, The Gem Palace’s reputation extended far beyond Rajasthan. In 1939, the Marchioness of Linlithgow appointed the House as her official jewellers, while Lord Mountbatten later bestowed further honours upon it. Its historic Jaipur haveli has since welcomed an extraordinary succession of distinguished guests, collectors and members of royal families, including Jackie Kennedy, the Prince of Wales and Diana Princess of Wales, and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
At the heart of The Gem Palace, however, remains the work of its master artisans. Techniques handed down through generations continue to shape jewels that combine the richness of Indian craftsmanship with a distinctive and contemporary sensibility.
Today, Shalini Kasliwal and Giorgio Grandi carry this story forward, preserving its remarkable savoir-faire while allowing it to evolve for a new generation.
Each piece is created to be worn, treasured, and passed on through time - a living expression of nine generations of creativity, craftsmanship and the enduring spirit of Jaipur.
