Lola Montes Schnabel
Lola Montes Schnabel is an American artist born in New York in 1981, and the daughter of painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel. A graduate of Cooper Union, she has developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography and film. Her visual language moves between figuration and abstraction, with works characterised by an intimate, poetic and dreamlike quality. Her practice often explores themes of memory, spirituality and autobiography. Since 2018, she has lived primarily in Sicily, where her connection with the local landscape and culture has had a profound influence on her work. There, she has further developed her practice in ceramics, collaborating with local artisans and incorporating materials and techniques rooted in Sicilian tradition into her contemporary work. She has exhibited at a number of international galleries and venues, including The Hole and Vito Schnabel Gallery in New York, as well as Nilufar in Milan. Her work brings together an American sensibility and Mediterranean influences, creating a distinctive, tactile and deeply personal visual world.
