Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren was born in 1967, choosing a name inspired by a sport that embodies a world of discreet elegance and classic style: polo.
In his first collection he debuted with a line of ties that were an immediate success, despite having been created against the grain, Lauren in fact designed them wide and handmade using unusual, rich and flashy materials.
In 1969 he was the first to open a men's boutique inside Bloomingdale's in New York.
In 1971 he created the first women's line with a collection of men's cut shirts, reinventing the classic male look for women's style.
The women's line also saw the birth of the polo player logo, which today is everywhere and distinguishes the Ralph Lauren style.
The following year Polo Ralph Lauren expanded its presence by also starting to deal with accessories and footwear.
