Dr Ambrosoli Foundation

The Dr. Ambrosoli Foundation was established on 20 February 1998 by the Ambrosoli family and the Comboni Missionaries, with the aim of continuing the work of Father Giuseppe Ambrosoli, a doctor and missionary who dedicated his life to caring for the most vulnerable people in Uganda.

For over 25 years, the Foundation has been working in Kalongo, northern Uganda, supporting the Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Midwifery Training School, two institutions that play a vital role in the health and development of local communities.

With 286 beds and more than 260 staff members, the hospital provides healthcare to over 50,000 people every year, primarily women and children, in a region where access to medical care remains a daily challenge. Alongside providing medical assistance, the Foundation invests in training local healthcare professionals through scholarships, partnerships with specialist medical institutions and professional development programmes, with the aim of helping the hospital achieve greater long-term independence and self-sufficiency. Particular emphasis is placed on women’s empowerment. By supporting the midwifery school, the Foundation offers young Ugandan women valuable opportunities for education, financial independence and professional development, while also helping to improve maternal and neonatal health. Inspired by the Comboni principle of “Saving Africa with Africans”, the Dr. Ambrosoli Foundation pursues a mission that extends beyond healthcare: promoting dignity, developing skills and creating opportunities, so that local communities can shape their own futures independently.
