Joia opened in Milan in 1989 when Chef Pietro Leemann and a group of friends decided to create their own restaurant. In 1996 Joia is the first vegetarian restaurant in Europe to be awarded the Michelin star and in 2020 it also receives the green star, also from Michelin, which is given for a virtuous and avant-garde gastronomy, responsible for the environment and Nature.
