Getting started

What Memorabid is, who can take part and how to create an account.

11 questions
What is Memorabid?

Memorabid is an online auction house for memorabilia: match-worn and match-issued shirts, boots, balls, autographs, sport, film and music collectibles, and one-of-a-kind experiences. We are an official auction house, registered with the Milan Chamber of Commerce (REA MI-2646345), with our operations office in Pavia, Italy.

Every item you win goes through our offices before it reaches you, even when the seller is a private collector.

Who can take part in the auctions?

Anyone aged 18 or over with a Memorabid account, from any country. To bid you also need a credit or debit card registered as a guarantee. Your account is personal and cannot be transferred: every bid placed from your account counts as placed by you.

How do I sign up?

Click Sign up at the top of the site, enter your name, surname, e-mail and mobile number, accept the Terms and Privacy policy and confirm. You will receive an e-mail to activate your account: if you can't find it, check your spam or promotions folder; if it really doesn't arrive, write to us and we'll activate the account for you.

Before your first bid the site will ask you to register a card: it is a guarantee, not a payment.

Why do I need to register a credit card to bid?

The card is a guarantee of good faith: it protects sellers and other collectors. Nothing is charged or held when you register the card or confirm a bid.

The card is only used if you win an auction, or one of your direct offers is accepted, and you don't pay within 48 hours. Card data is handled by Stripe, one of the world's leading payment providers: Memorabid never sees or stores your full card number or security code.

Can I change my registered card?

Yes. When you pay you can use a different card from the one registered as a guarantee, or PayPal or bank transfer. To replace the guarantee card, write to info@memorabid.com.

I can't sign in to my account: what should I do?

On the sign-in screen click Forgot your password?: you will receive a special link by e-mail to sign in straight away, then you can set a new password from your profile. If the link doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or write to info@memorabid.com from the address you registered with.

I'm a private individual: do I need to fill in the VAT number and SDI code?

No. Those fields are only for customers buying as a business or professional. If you are buying as a private individual you can leave them empty.

Will you notify me if I'm outbid or if I win?

Yes, you get an automatic e-mail when someone outbids you on an auction you've bid on, when you win and when an auction you follow is about to close. Our newsletter, twice a week, highlights the most interesting auctions.

It isn't possible yet to set alerts for a specific player or team: we suggest following new auctions on the site and on our social channels.

Which languages does your support speak?

Our team answers in Italian and English. The site is in Italian and English; the English information pages can also be read in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Write to info@memorabid.com from the address you registered with: we will close your account and delete the related data, including your registered card. Your account can be closed when there are no won lots left to pay, shipments in progress or other open matters; bids already placed remain valid. Data we are required by law to keep (for example accounting records) stays archived for the required period.

Can you find a specific shirt or collectible for me?

Tell us what you're looking for: if we have similar pieces coming up or at auction we'll gladly point them out. We don't arrange private signings on request, but every week there are signed with video proof auctions where the player signs the item for the winner.

Bidding and auctions

How to bid, automatic bidding, the timer and the rules on bids.

12 questions
How do I place a bid?

On the lot page you have two options:

  • Bid now: the auction rises straight to the amount you enter (at least the minimum increment).
  • Automatic bidding: you set the maximum you are willing to spend and the system bids for you only as much as needed, up to that ceiling.

Before your first bid we will ask you to register a card as a guarantee.

How does automatic bidding work?

You set your maximum bid, which stays hidden from others. When someone bids, the system answers for you with the minimum increment, until your ceiling is reached. You don't need to stay online and you never pay more than needed to beat the others.

If your maximum is above the reserve price and bidding stops below it, you win the lot at the reserve price. Example: public bid €2,000, reserve €2,500, your maximum €3,000: you win at €2,500.

I saw a lower bid: why is the final price higher?

This happens when you set an automatic bid and the lot had a reserve. If the reserve was higher than the last visible bid but lower than your maximum, the system awards you the lot at the reserve price, which becomes the final price. You never pay more than your maximum.

What is the minimum increment?

It depends on the current price: the higher the auction goes, the bigger the step. The site always shows the valid minimum increment on the lot page and doesn't accept lower bids. The full table of increments is in the Terms and conditions.

Why does the timer get longer?

If someone bids when less than a minute is left, the timer is extended by another minute. That way nobody wins with a last-second bid and everyone has time to respond. The time that counts is Memorabid's system time.

I bid by mistake: can I cancel my bid?

No: bids are binding and cannot be withdrawn once confirmed. Memorabid is an official auction house, and taking part in an auction is not like adding a product to an online shop's cart. A bid placed by someone else from your account also counts as yours.

Only in the case of an obvious error (for example a clear extra zero) write to info@memorabid.com right away with the lot and the amount: we will review the request, which is not a guarantee of cancellation.

How long does an auction last and when does it close?

Each auction has its own length, shown by the countdown on the lot page; on average auctions stay open for about a week. If an auction hasn't started yet, bidding opens at the time shown by the countdown.

What is the starting price?

It is the price the auction opens at. No auction starts below €30. The starting price is usually kept low on purpose so more collectors can join in: don't confuse it with the reserve price, the minimum the seller accepts.

Can I get more photos or information about a lot?

The listing contains everything we know about the lot. For more photos, measurements or details use the button to write to us on the auction page: if the lot is already at our offices (Memorabid Auctions) we answer; if it is a Marketplace Auctions lot we pass your question to the seller.

Can I contact the seller directly?

To protect everyone's privacy, direct contact is not possible. For Marketplace Auctions use the Send your message button on the auction page: our team checks the message and forwards it to the seller. Arranging with other users to close a sale outside Memorabid is not allowed.

I think a lot is fake or badly described: how do I report it?

Use the Report this auction button on the lot page or write to info@memorabid.com, attaching photos, documents or references that explain your doubt. We take every report seriously: we carry out the necessary checks, with outside specialists if needed, and we correct or withdraw the listing when the report is well founded.

An auction I bid on has disappeared: why?

Before the award Memorabid may suspend or cancel an auction, for example because of a technical problem, an error in the listing, an authenticity check still in progress or the lot being unavailable. In that case bids lapse and you don't have to pay anything. If you'd like to know more about a specific lot, write to us.

Reserve price (for buyers)

What the reserve is, when you find out and what to do if the auction closes below it.

4 questions
What is the reserve price?

It is the minimum price set by the seller for the lot to actually be sold. If the auction ends below the reserve, the lot is not awarded even if there is a highest bidder. Not every auction has a reserve and, in most cases, the reserve is higher than the starting price.

Can I find out a lot's reserve?

During the auction the reserve amount stays confidential. Anyone who has placed at least one bid can see whether the reserve has been met: once it is, you know the lot will really be awarded. If the auction closes below the reserve, the amount is revealed to the highest bidder.

The auction closed below the reserve: what happens?

If you are the highest bidder you receive the Discover the reserve e-mail with the amount needed. You have 48 hours of exclusivity to decide whether to meet it and win the lot; during those 48 hours nobody else can buy it. If you're not interested you don't need to do anything and you pay nothing.

When the gap between your bid and the reserve is small, within 20%, we ask you to choose straight away whether to cover it as soon as you visit the site.

Can I offer less than the reserve after the close?

No. The reserve is the threshold below which the seller chose not to sell, so we don't propose sales at a lower price. After the highest bidder's 48 hours of exclusivity, anyone can send a direct purchase offer at least equal to the reserve.

Payments

Deadlines, accepted methods, your registered card and what happens if you don't pay.

10 questions
How long do I have to pay for a lot I've won?

Within 48 hours of the auction closing, from your personal area on memorabid.com. We send you an e-mail reminder before the deadline. If you won several lots you pay for them all together in a single checkout.

Which payment methods do you accept?
  • Credit or debit card, through Stripe
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • PayPal
  • Bank transfer, including instant transfer

For totals of €5,000 or more payment is by bank transfer only. Choose the method at checkout: for a bank transfer the site shows you the details and the reference to use.

I'm paying by bank transfer: what do I need to know?

Choose Bank transfer at checkout and use exactly the details and reference shown, so we can recognise your payment straight away. The transfer must be made within the 48 hours; shipping starts once the amount reaches our account. An instant transfer speeds things up. If you've already paid but it doesn't show, send the receipt to info@memorabid.com.

What happens if I don't pay within 48 hours?

As set out in the Terms and conditions, Memorabid charges the amount due (lot, shipping and insurance) to the registered card, in full or in part. If the charge fails, a penalty of 15% of the hammer price, with a minimum of €150 per lot, applies, the account is blocked and the matter may be passed to our legal department.

If you have a problem, write to us before the deadline: we'll gladly find a solution together.

Can I pay for only some of the lots I've won, or pay in instalments?

No. The checkout includes all your won lots and must be paid in full; a partial payment counts as a deposit and the lots stay with us until you pay the total. Instalment payments are not available.

I've paid but the payment doesn't show, or I see a double charge.

Write to info@memorabid.com with the receipt or transaction ID (for PayPal you'll find it in the payment details): we'll check straight away. After every payment you receive a confirmation e-mail with the amount and method. If you really did pay twice, we return the extra amount.

Is paying on Memorabid safe?

Yes. Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments go through Stripe, with banking security protocols; PayPal payments stay on PayPal. Memorabid never receives or stores your full card details.

You charged my card without me paying: can I dispute the charge?

If you didn't pay for a won lot within 48 hours, the charge to your registered card is provided for by the Terms and conditions you accepted when you signed up: it is not an unauthorised charge. The cardholder is jointly liable with the account holder and cannot dispute the charge with their bank. If you think there's a mistake, write to info@memorabid.com before contacting your bank: we'll check straight away.

My card payment isn't going through: what should I do?

It's usually caused by your bank's security check (3D Secure) or a card limit: check your banking app and try again, or use another method such as PayPal or bank transfer. If the problem continues write to info@memorabid.com before the 48 hours are up: we can send you an alternative payment link.

Can I pay the penalty instead of the lot?

No. The penalty is the consequence of not paying, not an alternative to buying: your bid remains binding and the won lot must be paid for.

Costs, insurance and invoices

What you really pay on top of the hammer price.

5 questions
How much do I pay in total? Are there fees for buyers?

On Memorabid there is no buyer's premium and no other service fee for buyers. The total is:

  • the hammer price;
  • shipping, at the rate for the country and type of item;
  • mandatory insurance, calculated on the lot's value;
  • any extras you choose (certificate, box, display case).

Example in Italy: shirt won at €150 + shipping €10 + insurance €7.20 = €167.20. For shipments outside the European Union any duties are paid separately to the carrier.

Why is insurance mandatory and how much does it cost?

It covers the lot's value in transit, so a one-of-a-kind collectible is never left unprotected. The amount depends on the hammer price: for example €4.80 from €50 to €99, €7.20 from €100 to €199, €9.80 from €200 to €299, €14.50 from €300 to €399. The full table is on the Payments and shipping page and the calculation is automatic at checkout.

Do I get an invoice for my purchase?

Memorabid sells on behalf of the owners of the collectibles, so it cannot issue the sales invoice for the item. After payment you receive a confirmation with the details of the transaction. For services sold directly by Memorabid (for example certificates and accessories) we can issue an invoice: add your tax details to your profile or write to us.

What are the extras I see at checkout?

They are optional accessories: the certificate of authenticity (COA) or provenance (COO), the Memorabox to store your shirt, and display cases for shirts, balls and boots. If you don't want them you can remove them from your cart. If you add them after paying, they travel free with a lot that hasn't shipped yet.

Can the rates change?

Yes, but changes to costs are announced 15 days in advance. Up-to-date rates are always on the Payments and shipping page.

Shipping, customs and pickup

Timing, carriers, combined shipping, duties and pickup in Pavia.

11 questions
When will you ship my lot?
  • Memorabid Auctions (gold): the lot is already at our offices and ships within 5 days of payment, often sooner.
  • Marketplace Auctions (blue): the seller must first send the lot to Memorabid within 5 days of your payment; we check it and then ship it to you. That takes a few extra days, a few more if the seller is outside the European Union.

When the parcel leaves you receive an e-mail with the carrier and tracking code.

The tracking code doesn't work: is that normal?

Yes, tracking usually activates a few hours after the carrier collects the parcel. If you still see no movement after a day, write to info@memorabid.com with the lot number.

Which carrier do you use?

In Italy and the European Union we ship with GLS. For the rest of the world, and for any lot won for more than €3,000, we ship with DHL Express. Every shipment is tracked and insured.

How much does shipping cost?

It depends on the country and the type of item. In Italy a shirt, a pair of boots or a ball cost €10 (up to 3 kg, packaging included); in many European countries €13. Bulkier items, such as display cases, have separate rates. You'll find all rates and a calculator on the Payments and shipping page; the exact cost is calculated automatically at checkout.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, we ship to almost every country. For some destinations shipping may be temporarily suspended or slowed for customs or geopolitical reasons. Rates are on the Payments and shipping page; if your country isn't listed, write to us. Please also check that the item can be imported into your country.

Who pays customs duties?

For shipments outside the European Union (for example the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States) any duties, VAT and import taxes are paid by the recipient directly to the carrier or customs. Memorabid cannot estimate them in advance, because they depend on your country's rules. They are not included in the checkout total and are not refundable.

Can I receive several lots in one shipment?

Yes, if you ask and if no more than 48 hours pass between the first and the last award to combine. Make the request in the dedicated section at checkout or write to us: we recalculate shipping on the single parcel (insurance stays per lot) and refund any difference. The cost will never be higher than what you've already paid.

Can I change the shipping address?

Yes, if the parcel hasn't left yet: write to info@memorabid.com straight away with the full new address. If it has already left we'll try to ask the carrier for a change, which they don't always accept.

Can I collect my lot in person?

Yes, at our operations office: Memorabid Srl c/o Polo Tecnologico di Pavia, via Fratelli Cuzio 42, 27100 Pavia, Italy, Monday to Friday, 8:30–13:00 and 14:00–17:30. In that case you pay only the hammer price, with no shipping or insurance: write to info@memorabid.com first to arrange payment and the day. Please collect the lot within a few days of the award.

The office is an operations site, not a showroom open to the public.

The parcel arrived damaged or something is missing: what should I do?

Write to info@memorabid.com straight away with the lot number and photos of the packaging, the item and whatever is missing. If possible, also report the damage to the carrier on delivery. The lot is insured: we'll check and propose a solution.

Are you open all year round?

Online auctions are always running. Our office may close during some holiday periods, for example a week in August and the first days of January: shipping and replies resume when we're back. We always announce it in advance on the site and in our e-mails.

Returns, withdrawal and problems

Cancellations, right of withdrawal, damaged parcels and complaints.

6 questions
Do I have a right of withdrawal on a lot won at auction?

No. For lots won at auction there is no right of withdrawal for a simple change of mind: public auctions are excluded by law (Directive 2011/83/EU, art. 16(l), and the Italian Consumer Code, art. 59(m)), and the same applies to sales between private individuals. So before bidding, read the listing carefully and ask us for any detail.

Protection for defective items or items that differ from the description always applies: see the question below.

The item differs from the description: how does it work?

Write to info@memorabid.com as soon as possible after delivery, giving the exact reason and attaching detailed photos of the item, of the elements that don't match and of the packaging. A complaint about defects or non-conformity is different from a change of mind: we review it carefully, case by case, before giving you a final answer.

If the complaint is well founded we propose a solution, which may include a return and a refund. Import duties and taxes are not refundable.

The Marketplace seller hasn't sent the lot yet: what happens?

We follow up with the seller and keep you updated. The seller must send the lot to us within 5 days of your payment; if they don't, they pay a penalty and, if the lot never arrives, the sale is cancelled and we return what you paid.

I had a technical problem while bidding or paying.

Write to info@memorabid.com with the lot, the action you were taking, the approximate date and time and the error message; a screenshot helps a lot. We'll check the platform logs and get back to you.

I can see bids I didn't place: what should I do?

Write to info@memorabid.com straight away with the account, the bids or actions you don't recognise and when you noticed, and change your password. We handle the report as a priority and carry out the necessary checks.

How do I make a complaint?

Write to info@memorabid.com explaining what happened and attaching any useful documents: we'll answer and look for a solution. If you are a consumer and we can't reach an agreement, you can turn to the alternative dispute resolution bodies listed in the Terms and conditions.

Buy now and direct offers

Buying at a fixed price and making an offer on closed lots.

5 questions
What is Buy now?

It's buying at a fixed price, without an auction: pick the lot in the Buy now section, add it to your cart and pay within 48 hours. For Buy now your registered card is never charged automatically: if you don't complete payment we write to ask whether you want to go ahead, and with no reply within 5 days the purchase is cancelled.

Can I use the right of withdrawal on a Buy now purchase?

Yes. For fixed-price Buy now purchases the right of withdrawal applies under the law. Write to info@memorabid.com with the lot: we'll explain how to return it.

Can I buy a lot that has already been sold or went unsold?

Yes, with a direct purchase offer, the button on the page of closed lots:

  • if the lot was sold, the offer goes to the person who won it and must be at least equal to the hammer price;
  • if it went unsold below the reserve, it goes to the seller and must be at least equal to the reserve.

The recipient can accept, decline or make a counter-offer, with no obligation.

How long does an offer last and what happens if it's accepted?

An offer, or a counter-offer, stays valid for 7 days (168 hours). If it's accepted it is binding: you pay the offered amount plus shipping and insurance within 48 hours, with no fees. The owner sends the item to Memorabid, we compare it with the original listing and then ship it to you.

I received an offer on a lot I'd won: what should I do?

You can accept it, decline it or make a counter-offer, with no obligation. If you accept, you send the item to Memorabid by express courier within 48 hours and, once it's delivered to the new buyer, you receive the amount minus the commission (15% + 3% transaction costs, plus VAT). You don't need to sign a seller contract: just add your tax and bank details to your profile.

Authenticity and certificates

Gold and blue auctions, COA and COO with NFC chip, autographs, QuickOpinion.

10 questions
What's the difference between Memorabid Auctions and Marketplace Auctions?
  • Memorabid Auctions (gold): the collectibles are already at our offices, photographed by our team and checked before publication, with outside specialists if needed. Memorabid guarantees the authenticity and accuracy of every element described in the listing.
  • Marketplace Auctions (blue): listed by a collector using our technology. We approve every seller and every auction in advance, but the seller is responsible for provenance. After the award the lot still comes through us for a conformity check before it reaches you.
What are the COA and COO and how much do they cost?
  • COA, certificate of authenticity, for Memorabid Auctions: €25. It guarantees authenticity and exact correspondence to the listing.
  • COO, certificate of origin and provenance, for Marketplace Auctions: €19. It certifies that the item was bought at auction on Memorabid.

Both come on paper and in digital form, with a serial code and two NFC tags, one on the certificate and one to attach to the item: hold your phone close and the digital record opens with photos and description. You add them at checkout and they're optional. See how they work.

Can I add the certificate after paying?

Yes. Write to info@memorabid.com: if the lot hasn't shipped yet the certificate travels with it at no shipping cost; otherwise we send it separately for a small shipping fee, or free with your next purchase.

How do you check autographs?

Every autograph at auction must meet at least one of these requirements:

  1. photo or video proof of the signing;
  2. direct provenance from the athlete, club or federation;
  3. a certificate from a recognised body such as Beckett, PSA/DNA or JSA.

Otherwise the autograph is examined by a court-registered handwriting expert, a member of A.G.I. and A.G.P., independent and impartial. It goes to auction only with a positive opinion, and in that case the expert's certificate is included free for the winner.

What's the difference between match-worn, match-issued, match and store shirts?
  • Match worn: worn by the player in a match.
  • Match issued: made for the match, with all the features of a match shirt, but not necessarily worn.
  • Match shirt: a general term for shirts with match specifications.
  • Store: the version sold to fans in shops.

When there's no certain proof of use in a match, the attribution refers to the season rather than a specific match: the listing always states what is guaranteed. To learn more, read our guide to match-worn shirts.

Can you tell me who the seller is or where the item comes from?

For privacy reasons we don't disclose the names of private suppliers. The listing includes all the provenance information we can share. In special cases, for example formally requested authenticity checks, details can be shared as provided for in the contracts.

Can you check an item I already own? What is QuickOpinion?

QuickOpinion is the service for getting an initial opinion on the authenticity of a collectible you own, for example a shirt. It costs €10: after payment you send us photos (front, back, labels, patches, details) and a description, and in about 48 hours you receive a PDF with our opinion and a QR code that opens the digital version. It doesn't cover autographs.

Outside this service we don't give opinions on items not put up for auction. You'll find everything on the Certification page.

Can you tell me what my item is worth, or buy it?

We don't give valuations and we don't buy collectibles directly: we are an auction house selling on behalf of owners, and the auction sets the price. If you want to sell, fill in the form on the Become a seller page: our sales team will get back to you.

Do you sell replicas or reproductions?

No. We don't auction commercial replicas or reproductions: an item found to be one is rejected during our checks.

The lot already has another body's certificate: do I also need the COA?

If the listing mentions an external certificate (for example Beckett, PSA/DNA, JSA, Fanatics or the club's own), it's included with the lot. Memorabid's COA remains optional: it adds the digital link with NFC chip to the auction record. Bear in mind that third-party certificates can be forged too: that's why our checks never rely on a certificate alone.

Special formats and experiences

Prestige, Elite Auction, Vip Room, Moment Auction, video-proof signings and experiences.

6 questions
What is the Prestige section?

It's the permanent showcase of our most important lots, always open in the Prestige section: rare, high-value collectibles selected by our team.

What are Elite Auction and Moment Auction?
  • Elite Auction: a monthly 5-hour public auction with special rules and selected lots, announced in advance with a countdown.
  • Moment Auction: every month a theme linked to current sporting events, with collectibles chosen for the occasion.
What is the Vip Room?

It's a private 24-hour auction, about once a month, open by invitation to Memorabid's most active collectors. Vip Room lots are not visible to the public.

How do signed-with-video-proof auctions work?

In signed with video proof auctions the player signs the item for you: after winning you tell us your preferences (for example model and size), the signing is filmed and you receive the video before shipping. A dedication is included only in auctions that say so in the title. Timing depends on the player's availability.

I've won an experience: how does it work?

Experiences aren't shipped: after payment we contact you to arrange dates and details and to collect the participants' information. Travel and accommodation are not included unless the listing says otherwise. If the date or programme change substantially we offer an equivalent date or service, or a refund of the unused part.

Do you run auctions reserved for a company's employees?

Yes: we create auctions reserved for a partner company's audience, with a dedicated page and rules and prices agreed with the company. Write to us through the contact form for a tailored project.

Selling on Memorabid

Who can sell, how to start, the contract and the two ways of selling.

9 questions
Who can sell on Memorabid and how do I start?

Private collectors, professionals, companies and non-profit organisations can sell, including from outside Italy. To start, fill in the form on the Become a seller page with a short description and a few photos of your items: our sales team usually gets back to you within 24–48 business hours to understand what you want to sell and with which strategy.

What can I sell?

Mainly sports memorabilia: match-worn and match-issued shirts, boots, balls, autographs, historic collectibles. We also accept collectibles related to film, music, art and fashion, and one-of-a-kind experiences. Every item must be authentic and yours to sell; we don't accept commercial replicas.

What's the difference between managed selling and the Marketplace?
  • Managed (15%): you send us the items before the auction and we handle everything: checks, professional photos including 360°, description, listing, customer support and shipping. We decide whether to publish the lot in Memorabid Auctions or the Marketplace.
  • Self-listed Marketplace (10%): you list the auctions yourself from a computer or phone, with photos and description, and you answer collectors' messages. If the lot sells you send it to Memorabid within 5 days of the buyer's payment: you never ship directly to the buyer.

The Marketplace suits sellers with many lower-value pieces; the most important lots perform better with full management.

How does the seller contract work? Does it tie me in?

The contract (the "mandate") is signed online in a few minutes, even from your phone: you receive a personal link, check your details, upload your documents and confirm with two codes, one by e-mail and one by SMS. At the end you receive the signed PDF. You'll need:

  • individuals: ID document and Italian tax code (or equivalent);
  • companies: a recent company registration extract and the legal representative's ID;
  • non-profits: statute, deed of incorporation and the legal representative's ID.

The contract lasts one year and renews automatically, but it has no fixed costs, no minimum number of lots and no general exclusivity: it works for a single piece or a hundred. You can terminate it with 90 days' notice, even by a simple e-mail.

Can I keep the same item on sale on other sites too?

No, while the item is entrusted to Memorabid, scheduled or at auction it must be on sale only with us: before offering it to us, remove any listings on eBay, Vinted or other channels. A collectible shown everywhere loses appeal and collectors notice.

Can I sell if I live abroad?

Yes. To receive payments you'll need details for an international bank transfer or a PayPal account. If you ship items from outside the European Union, allow for the timing and any inbound customs costs: we'll help you with the shipping documents.

Which photos and description do I need for a Marketplace auction?

Photos must be square and no larger than 1 MB each: front, back, labels, details, signs of wear and signatures. In the description state what the item is, its provenance, main features, condition and any certificates. Our team approves every auction before it goes live and may ask you for changes.

How do I follow my lots on sale?

From your seller area on the platform you can see auctions, bids, sales and payments. With every payment you also receive a statement by e-mail detailing the lots paid.

I listed a Marketplace auction and it says "processing": how long does it take?

Every auction you list is checked by our team before it goes live: we review photos, description and any certificates. It usually takes a few business days; if extra checks are needed, for example on certificate codes, it may take a few days more. If anything is missing we'll write to you.

Reserve and starting price

How to choose the right reserve and why the starting price is low.

5 questions
How do I choose the reserve price?

The reserve is not the item's value and not a forecast of the final price: it's a safety threshold, the price below which selling would really work against you. There's only one right question: below what amount would I rather not sell at all?

Commercial value is what you hope the market will pay for the lot; the reserve is the parachute. Mixing them up leads to reserves that are too high and hold back competition. You decide the reserve, but our sales team is happy to think it through with you.

Why is it better to keep the reserve as low as possible?
  • Bidders can see when the reserve is met: from then on they know the lot will really be awarded, and competition heats up.
  • If the auction closes just below the reserve, the highest bidder has 48 hours to meet it and, when the gap is within 20%, we ask them to decide straight away.
  • An unsold lot can't go straight back to auction (it takes at least 45 days): a reserve that's too high "burns" an attempt.
I'm thinking about the net amount I want: how does that become the reserve?

Tell us the minimum net amount you want for each item: we work out the reserve by adding the fee. Example: to receive at least €1,500 net, the reserve becomes about €1,922 with managed selling, or about €1,783 on the self-listed Marketplace.

Who sets the starting price? Isn't it too low?

Memorabid sets the starting price and keeps it low on purpose: it invites more collectors to place the first bid and sparks competition. It's not a risk, because the reserve protects you: below it the lot isn't sold. No auction starts below €30 anyway.

Can I change the reserve?

Yes, before the auction starts: write to us and we'll update it. After an auction closes below the reserve we don't offer the highest bidder a lower price: if the reserve turned out to be too high, we lower it together for the next auction.

Seller fees and payouts

What Memorabid keeps, what you receive and when the transfer arrives.

7 questions
How much does Memorabid keep when I sell?

No fixed costs: we only earn on lots that sell, as a percentage of the hammer price.

  • 15% with managed selling;
  • 10% with the self-listed Marketplace;

plus a 3% contribution to transaction costs, all plus VAT. In practice you receive about 78% of the hammer price with managed selling and about 84% on the Marketplace. If the lot doesn't sell, you pay no fee.

What is the extra 3%?

It's not a second fee: it's a flat contribution to the costs we bear to collect buyers' payments by card, PayPal and the other methods. It's flat because the real cost varies from transaction to transaction and in some cases, for example with certain PayPal payments, it even exceeds 5%.

Why does it benefit sellers that buyers pay no fees?

Because a collector thinks about the total they spend. If they also pay a buyer's fee, that money still comes out of their budget and never reaches you. On Memorabid buyers pay no fees: their whole budget can go into the bid, which means into your hammer price.

When do I get paid?

You receive what you're owed, net of fees and VAT, 14 days after the buyer has received the item. We pay sellers twice a month, on the 1st and the 16th, by bank transfer to the IBAN in your profile (in some cases by PayPal). With every payment you receive a statement by e-mail listing the lots paid.

If your IBAN is missing or wrong, the payment moves to the next date: keep it up to date in your profile.

Besides the fee, what can be deducted?

Only items you know about in advance, all shown on your statement: for example the expert check on autographs without a certificate (only if the outcome is positive), the cost of returning unsold items to you, any penalties or refunds. Memorabid collects payment on your behalf, invoices its own fee and pays you the net amount.

Can I get a lower fee or an advance?

Fees are the same for everyone and don't depend on the lot's value or the number of pieces. Special collaborations, for example with clubs or athletes, are assessed case by case with our sales team.

What happens if the winner doesn't pay?

We handle the recovery, with the rules and penalties that apply to buyers. If the sale falls through, the lot stays yours and becomes available for a new auction, sooner than usual.

Sending items, unsold lots and relisting

How to send us your items, the checks on arrival and what happens if a lot goes unsold.

7 questions
How do I send you my items?
  1. Fill in the online delivery form: for each item the type, player or team, season, condition, provenance and the minimum net amount you want.
  2. You receive a confirmation with a file number: write it on the parcel.
  3. Ship with a tracked courier, at your expense, to Memorabid Srl c/o Polo Tecnologico di Pavia, via Fratelli Cuzio 42, 27100 Pavia, Italy, and send us the tracking code.

You can also deliver in person, Monday to Friday, 8:30–13:00 and 14:00–17:30, letting us know beforehand.

What happens when the items arrive?

We check the parcel piece by piece and examine every item. We tell you the outcome for each one: accepted or not accepted, with the reason. The most common reasons are details that don't match the match version, a signature inconsistent with authentic examples, insufficient proof of provenance, labels or materials inconsistent with the period, a commercial replica, or condition not suitable for auction.

I have an autograph without a certificate: can I sell it?

Yes, if you accept a check by our court-registered handwriting expert, a member of A.G.I. and A.G.P. The check costs €35 and you pay it only if the outcome is positive; if the expert doesn't confirm authenticity you pay nothing and the autograph doesn't go to auction. The expert's certificate goes to the buyer, or stays with you if the lot doesn't sell.

I sold a lot on the Marketplace: what do I need to do?

You receive an automatic award e-mail. Once the buyer has paid, send the lot to Memorabid by tracked courier within 5 days of the payment, at your expense: we check it and ship it to the buyer. Never ship directly to the buyer. If the lot doesn't arrive or isn't available, a penalty of 15% of the hammer price applies, with a minimum of €150.

My lot went unsold: when does it go back to auction?

We don't relist it straight away, so the collectible isn't overexposed: before a new attempt we wait at least 45 days, a few days more with each relisting. Special formats such as the Vip Room and Elite Auction are the exception, with shorter times. You can ask us not to relist it before a certain date, and we can review the reserve together for the new auction.

Can I get my unsold or rejected items back?

Yes. You can collect them in Pavia, Monday to Friday, 8:30–13:00 and 14:00–17:30, or have them shipped at the same rate we charge buyers (from €10 in Italy). The cost is paid by link or deducted from your next payout. You can also withdraw a lot from sale until it has been published.

Can I put forward my lots for the Vip Room, Elite or Moment Auction?

Yes, our team makes the selection. The Vip Room is private: the public doesn't see the lot and, if it goes unsold, it can go to public auction as early as the following week. For Moment Auctions we send you the theme 15–20 days ahead, so you can suggest matching pieces.

Charity auctions and events

How charity auctions and the MemorabidNOW silent auction work.

4 questions
How do charity auctions work?

Auctions labelled "Charity initiative in support of…" give the beneficiary 85% of the hammer price; the 15% covers our service (auction management, support, payment collection, administration and logistics), with no other deductions. The funds are paid to the organisation within 16 days of the buyer receiving the lot.

If I win a charity auction, do I get a receipt for a tax deduction?

No: by law a deductible donation must be freely given and not linked to buying an item, so winning a lot doesn't entitle you to a donation receipt. During MemorabidNOW events you can instead make a free donation: you pay it directly to the organisation, which issues the receipt.

I'd like a silent auction for my event: how does MemorabidNOW work?

MemorabidNOW brings the auction to your evening: guests bid from their phones, the room sees every bid on the screens and online collectors can take on the room. 100% of the proceeds go to the organisation; Memorabid receives a fixed fee agreed in advance, like any other supplier for the evening, plus digital transaction costs. Write to us through the contact form for a quote.

We're a charity: can we auction memorabilia?

Yes, even without an event: we auction memorabilia donated to your cause, labelled as a charity auction. You'll need the contract for non-profits, with your statute, deed of incorporation and the legal representative's ID. We don't donate items of our own, but we offer our platform, audience and expertise.
